Employment Change Opens the Path to Passion

Fairport, NY:  Sandra Swanson wants to assist people in the healing process; she became a licensed massage therapist to fulfill that dream.  Now the Fairport-Perinton Chamber of Commerce is recognizing her service to our community as February’s Business of the Month.

Paul West of Nothnagle Realtors and Chamber President, personally enjoys the success stories he comes across in his volunteer role.  “Sandy is a good example of people using their gifts for the benefit of others within our community.”  Sandy had the opportunity to do just that when she found herself in a laid-off status.  She had been a Word Processor, but always retained her interest in the human body.  As a teenager, she pursued this interest through various organizations.  In particular, she found herself being uplifted by working with ability challenges.  Sandy saw the transition time she had been given as a time to go after her passion of assisting others’ healing, through Massage Therapy.

As a licensed Massage Therapist, Sandy enjoys conversing with her clients and using her hands in their healing process.  Her clients include those with disabilities, Veterans, and senior citizens. “I love what I do and am often reinforced by clients for being a very good listener and demonstrating the love for my Massage Therapy skills,” Sandy shared.  She continues to pursue on-going education and seeks to help the underserved.

Chamber Board Member from the Membership Committee and North Western Mutual’s Kelly Wright, met Sandy through the Chamber.  “What I noticed about Sandy is the fact that we can count on her participation.  Whether it is a networking event, speaker luncheon, educational seminar, or a ribbon cutting to celebrate business growth, Sandy is with us.  Member participation is important to our Chamber, to have a critical mass for networking.  For the individual member, the Chamber provides visibility to the business and consistent participation enables relationships to develop, so business visibility turns into trusted relationships.”

In addition to the Fairport-Perinton Chamber of Commerce, Sandy is a member of G.R.A.P.E., the MS Society, American Cancer Society and serves as a Board Member for the Penfield Business Association.

With six years and counting in the massage industry, Sandy rose from a challenging unemployment time to grooming her gifts.  The local community is a beneficiary of this transition.  Sandy can be reached at 1601 Penfield Road, 585-943-7664.
