Greetings from the Advent House!  As many Fairport & Perinton residents know, we are a non-profit two bed home for the terminally ill providing hospice-like care for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the dying in a loving homelike setting.  Staff and volunteers, in conjunction with a certified home health agency and the resident’s physician, provide individualized holistic care.

We are writing this open letter to our community to alert you to some changes in our annual Garage Sale held at the end of August each year.  The rising costs of the tents that we use and the incredible wear-and-tear on the house each year has caused us to re-think our current format.  More importantly, the sale has become so large and so work-intensive that we need to decrease the months-long impact to our home and to its mission of caring for the dying and their families.

We will be moving to more of a SUPER SALE format as follows:

We will accept ONLY furniture, sporting goods, antiques, baby furniture, lamps, bikes, gardening, tools, and electronics from May 1st until August 15th.  Drop-off for these items only will continue to be at the Advent House garage on 1010 Moseley Road, Fairport.  We will accept jewelry all year around.  Plastic containers will be placed in the churches and at Advent House for costume jewelry.

We will accept all items above PLUS household items, artwork, frames, toys, antiques, cookbooks and children’s books, baskets, silk flowers, small kitchen appliances (toasters, blenders, etc.), holiday decorations, and linens beginning on Saturday, August 22, 2015 until Thursday, August 27th, 2015.  Donations can be dropped off at (NEW LOCATION for 2015) ST. JOHN OF ROCHESTER, 8 WICKFORD WAY, FAIRPORT from 9 am – 3pm on Saturday (8/22), noon – 3pm on Sunday (8/23), 9 am-8 pm on Monday (8/24), Tuesday (8/25), Wednesday (8/26) and then on Thursday, (8/27) from 9 am- 6 pm.

Our annual Advent House Garage Sale will be held on FRIDAY, AUGUST 28, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and on SATURDAY, AUGUST 29, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at (NEW LOCATION for 2015) ST. JOHN OF ROCHESTER, 8 WICKFORD WAY, FAIRPORT.

We are grateful for the understanding of the community as we make some slight changes to the timing of our Donations in anticipation of the 2015 Advent House Garage Sale.  The support of this caring and compassionate community enables us to continue to care for our Residents and their families at no cost to them and no type of insurance reimbursement to us.  Thank you.
