The Genesee Valley Penny Saver has been a family affair since 1948. Now, the Fairport-Perinton Chamber of Commerce and its family of members has recognized the Genesee Valley Penny Saver as the January Business of the Month.

The Penny Saver‘s beginning was in a garage owned by Roger and Jane Harrison, in Avon, New York. Their children have become active in the business with Steve Harrison as Publisher, and Kim Dougherty as Vice President. The business outgrew the garage space and now occupies four locations. Avon is still the hub and home to the largest of the four. It is in Avon that the papers are printed.

An active Chamber member, Penny Saver Ad Consultant Daria Reitknecht has served the publication for the past eight years. Daria can be heard stating, ‘‘Print is the most trusted form of media.“ She loves to tell the story of a non-profit which ran ads for 52 weeks on many different advertising channels, and the Genesee Valley Penny Saver earned their greatest results!

The Genesee Valley Penny Saver has a state title, as well. It has been number one in New York State for five years in a row, as a free community paper! In addition to ten printed papers reaching over 132,000 homes in the region, the Penny Saver publishes an online presence with each paper and manages Penny Lane Promotional Products and Penny Lane Printing.

Their latest acquisition is a very sophisticated digital printing press. With their new RICOH 7200X, the Penny Saver will print a wide variety of eye-catching newsletters, programs, and other books for their clients. 2020 will usher in six editions of their full-color Home magazines for Webster-Penfield, Greece, and Pittsford-Brighton. In addition to being a member of the Fairport-Perinton Chamber, the Genesee Valley Penny Saver belongs to other Chambers, including those of Livingston County, Penfield, and Webster. Daria is on the Board of the Penfield Chamber. The Penny Saver also supports the M.A.D. D., local Breast Cancer organizations and many other important social causes.
