Christopher's Challenge is named and maintained in honor of Chris Costello, a 36-year old young man from Webster, who was suffering from leukemia and in need of a bone marrow transplant. Since he received his life-saving bone marrow transplant on June 2, 1998, the fund began as a hope for other people in need of bone marrow transplants. The purpose of the fund is to draw awareness, educate and type people to become potential donors. Christopher's Challenge also financially supports patients and their families going through transplants at Wilmot Cancer Center. Christopher's Challenge has paid for the typing of over 7,000 people being added to the Registry (30 people have become donors and given someone a 2nd Chance At Life) and over $70,000 has been used to support patients going through transplants and purchasing items for patients while hospitalized.
