TOWN SUPERVISOR CIARAN HANNA ANNOUNCES NEW PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT IN KREAG ROAD PARK
A new playground was built at Kreag Road Park, replacing 20-year-old equipment. Opened in early June, this marks the first phase of the Town’s 5-Year Playground Revitalization Plan, which aims to renovate and upgrade three of the eight playground areas in our parks system.
“We continue to invest in enhancing and maintaining our parks and playgrounds for families to enjoy,” said Hanna. “Our Town Playground Revitalization Plan stems from our desire to provide all families with the opportunity for active, healthy, and outdoor lifestyles. Highlighted by recreational canal and community trails, our parks, playgrounds, and open spaces are a source of pride for our community. Opening just in time for summer, our new Kreag Road playground will be a fantastic opportunity for kids to try out challenging climbing features.”
The Town’s 5-Year Playground Revitalization Plan will modernize the structures of three aging playgrounds located at Kreag Road Park, Center Park West, and Spring Lake Park. As a part of the plan, the Town has identified the need for an inclusive and accessible playground in Center Park West, slated for renovation in 2025.
“With eight playgrounds over fifteen parks, we continually assess the condition of the structures as they are heavily used and provide a great opportunity for child wellness, socialization, and imaginative play,” said Recreation & Parks Commissioner Jeff Nutting. “The new playground equipment at Kreag Road Park will provide a unique opportunity to promote play and activity for older kids who may have lost interest in a traditional playground. We are focusing on inclusion and accessibility as we plan for our next playground replacement. We look forward to adding inclusive elements and engaging the community in the next phase of our Playground Revitalization Plan.”
With construction starting soon, the new playground at Kreag Road Park is scheduled to open in June. It features a natural green and brown color scheme and offers modern play structures and climbing equipment on an engineered wood fiber surface. The playground is currently closed for replacement. Work is expected to be completed by June 19.
Kreag Road Park is located on Kreag Road at I-490 in the southwest quadrant of Perinton. A popular park, it consists of 9 acres. It includes, among other features, a picnic shelter, tennis courts, pickleball courts, softball fields, a basketball court, and access to various trails, including the Crescent Trail, and docks provide access to the Erie Canal.
