Business of the Month
Sweet Charity Resale Boutique & Shop, benefiting Advent House, experienced a “sweet” surprise in being named the July Fairport-Perinton Chamber Business of the Month.
Advent House, an outreach ministry of Perinton Ecumenical Ministries, has operated a comfort care home in Perinton since 1991, providing care to the dying and their families. Residents pay no fees and Advent House receives no reimbursement for this service, relying on the community support of fundraisers, direct donations and the giving hearts of volunteers. In late 2017, Sweet Charity, was opened as a funding replacement to the annual Garage Sale, providing consistent financial support for Advent House and the opportunity to accept donations from the community year round. Located at 650 Whitney Road, Sweet Charity resells quality furniture, rugs, home decor, artwork, kitchen housewares, and jewelry Wednesday through Saturday, 10am-4pm. Donations are accepted at the shop until 3pm on open days.
When you walk into the showroom, you visually engage with both new and familiar patterns, an eclectic selection of furniture and a unique array of decorative pieces from antique to contemporary. Since all items are donated, selection changes daily! One sweet idea is a wish book at the boutique--if you are looking for a particular item, let the staff know and they’ll contact you if the desired item is donated. Recently, a Syracuse couple’s cherished china pattern was spotted at Sweet Charity, the pieces eagerly bought by relatives and received with enthusiasm, helping keep a meal tradition alive for an expanding family.
Advent House and Sweet Charity are members of both the Fairport-Perinton Chamber and Fairport Perinton Merchants Association. Both function only by the generosity of dedicated volunteers! Stop into Sweet Charity for volunteer applications for either place and follow Sweet Charity on Facebook at SweetCharityFairport. Other opportunities to support the vital work of Advent House include its annual Spring Gala in April and Golf Tournament at Victor Hills in September. Chamber Board of Director Kellie Wright said, “This Business of the Month recognition is sweet for us too! We are happy to be able to make visible a way that each of us within our community can participate in helping our neighbors in their time of need, through Sweet Charity.”
